Save the Wetland!

The Pantanal has been on fire for days. From January to the first half of September this year, fires reached more than 2.9 million hectares, according to the National Center for Prevention and Fighting Forest Fires (Prevfogo). This figure represents about 19% of the biome in Brazil, according to the Instituto SOS Pantanal. The entire burned area corresponds to just over 19 times the capital of São Paulo. And even if such fires, in periods of drought, are one of the consequences of global warming, it is presumed that there was an arson. Fire and smoke are already hitting nearby cities, such as Corumbá. The drought in this city is so extreme that it is raising the thermal sensation to 50 degrees. The situation severely affects the local fauna and flora. There are several animals charred or severely injured by the flames, in addition to the countless trees that are being destroyed. Fire and smoke on the highway. Animals fleeing danger. Indigenous lands burning. Even aquatic plants failed to escape the flames. Firefighters have already made it clear that if there is no rain, this biome will burn in flames until the end. Our Pantanal also has environmental value. We are as important as the Amazon. The Pantanal is a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by the UN. Biodiversity cries in human hands. Species are being extinct. Let us not let the greed of many destroy the most valuable. We can still save the world. Help us.

Por que isso é importante?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Pantanal is the largest floodplain in the world. It is one of the richest biomes in existence. We must not let the consequences of human activities interfere with biodiversity.
